Helder Baldi Jacob, DDS, MSc, PhD, is a Clinical Associate Professor and Program Director in the Division of Orthodontics, Department of Developmental Sciences, at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences College of Dentistry (OUHSC). Dr. Jacob completed his dental education in Brazil in 1994 at Sao Paulo State University Araraquara School of Dentistry (UNESP). He received his postgraduate certificate in Orthodontics from UNESP in 1999 where he also received his Master and Doctorate degrees in 2006 and 2011, respectively. Dr. Jacob worked in private practice until 2011 while managing to stay in contact with academics. He joined Texas A&M University College of Dentistry in 2011 as a Postdoc fellow and became faculty in 2014 as Instructor. Working close to Dr. Peter H. Buschang, he has developed expertise in Craniofacial Growth and Development. In 2016, Dr. Jacob joined the Department of Orthodontics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry (UTHealth), in Houston, Texas, as Assistant Professor, where he received his certificate degree in orthodontics in 2022. Dr. Jacob was Adjunct Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry (2017-2024), and he is Adjunct Assistant Professor at UNESP. In 2024, he became American Board Certified, and he was hired as Program Director at OUHSC. Dr. Jacob has maintained an active faculty practice and research. He has been granted by the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation, and his main research interests include craniofacial growth and development, biomechanics, and maxillary expansion. Dr. Jacob has published book chapters and over 50 manuscripts (peer-reviewed and special topics). He has given international presentations, and he was selected as one of the speakers of the Annual Session of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) in 2020, 2023, 2024, and 2025. In addition, Dr. Jacob is member of the Council of Scientific Affairs (COSA/AAO) and former president of the Society of Educators (SOE/AAO). He is reviewer of several academic journals such as the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Angle Orthodontist, European Journal of Orthodontics, Progress in Orthodontics, Journal of World Federation of Orthodontists and Dental press Journal of Orthodontics
