2X4 technique in early orthodontic treatment.
There are many factors that may indicate treatment with fixed appliances in the mixed dentition: an anterior crossbite, excessive malalignment, proclined upper incisors, impacted tooth traction, among others. Usually, the appliance consists of brackets on the incisors, bands on the molars, orthodontic wire and some additional auxiliaries. One of the major concerns is if by moving the incisors, especially the lateral incisor roots, there can be the risk for root resorption or impaction of the canines. During this lecture we will discuss the indications for the 2×4 appliance, the biomechanics and how to avoid the risk for pathologies.
